Hello Vilmos, how are you? How is it to work as a Software Engineer at Nokia and would you be down for a quick chat?

Sadman R. asked a question to Vilmos M.

This is Sadman Rahin, a rising junior at City College of New York studying Computer Science. I am currently working as a AI/ML Engineering Intern at Air Force Research Laboratory. I applied for AI/Automation Coop & Firmware Development Coop jobs at Nokia for the fall. I would love to learn more!

    Dear Sadman,

Thank you very much for your question! First, let me congratulate you on your current AI/ML Engineering internship at the Air Force Research Laboratory — that's impressive! It's also great to see that you're proactively looking for coop positions while pursuing your studies.

Working as a Software Engineer at Nokia is quite diverse and exciting. One of the things I particularly appreciate about Nokia is the wide spectrum of projects available to engineers. On one end, you might work with cutting-edge technologies like 5G, autonomous networks, and AI/ML applications. These projects require constant learning and adaptation to new technologies — perfect for engineers who thrive on staying at the forefront of innovation. On the other hand, you might work on maintaining and improving critical legacy systems (yes, 2G is still vital in many parts of the world!), which requires developing deep expertise in specific domains. This variety means that regardless of your interests and working style, you can find your niche here.

What sets software engineering at Nokia apart is our industry's unique requirements. Telecommunications infrastructure is critical — it needs to be extremely reliable and secure. When we develop software, we're aware that millions of people depend on our networks for everything from emergency calls to daily communications. This responsibility means we maintain exceptionally high standards for quality and security in our code. It's challenging but also deeply rewarding to work on systems that have such a direct impact on people's lives.

While I unfortunately cannot accommodate individual chat sessions due to my work commitments, I hope this gives you a good overview of what it's like to work here. I wish you the best of luck with your current internship, and I sincerely hope to see you join Nokia as a coop trainee in the fall!
