The work environment is super flexible. We're firm believers that results speak for themselves. You have a lot of freedom to decide where, how and at what hours you work - as long as you deliver results. People's well-being is also well taken care of.
Andrejs B. You might want to share your experience as being part of the IT team at Nokia.
Hi Serena,
Besides flexibility that Anni mentioned one thing I personally enjoy a lot is the level of support you get at Nokia. Both from the company and from your teammates & colleagues. Almost everything is a team effort and is a result of collaboration with others. Nobody is expected to know everything and having colleagues whom you can always turn to for assistance or guidance/advice removes a lot of mental pressure. That support is built on mutual respect, which is one of our core values and ensures that no matter what experience you have your opinion and ideas are valued equally.
On the company level Nokia promotes the idea of empowering people and giving them responsibility over certain areas, projects, processes or over ideas. As I see it, that provides the necessary environment to build skills, as well as find and develop areas you're interested in.
Hi,
We have a very flexible environment here in Nokia.
Schedule-wise, if needed you can work out your schedule with your team and manager. As long as it would not affect your work and the team dynamics then there would not be a problem. This allows employees to balance their work and personal life.
When it comes to resources, you will not be limited by what the company provides. You will be allowed to use other tools and applications you are comfortable with or new releases you would like to explore given that it is not in conflict with the company's policies. Having access to external resources allows employees to innovate, to be able to continuously improve their way of work.
Nokia offices also have an open-plan. This encourages collaboration and teamwork among peers.
Hi,
We have a nice and flexible working environment in Nokia.
For physically office layout, we have open office space, everyone is equally sitting in the open office area, that means even big boss he/she doesn't have separated office room, it's very easy for everyone to see each other face to face. And such an office layout is very good for teamwork, easy for communication. In R&D, we use Agile practice, you could see Kanban in many team areas.
There are many resources you could find inside Nokia to support your development, a lot of e-learning and online training are available for us provided by Nokia Education center.
Innovation is encouraged and promoted in Nokia, there are Innovation garages as open space to support employee's innovation, welcome everyone to propose innovative ideas.
hi Nishtha, you'll definitely find useful tips and recommendations on how to join us on this platform. Check it out! I wish you the best of luck!
Each organization and group will have a slightly different culture and environment. I'm part of a small team but we represent 5 different countries and so this creates a very diverse working environment. I think that my group and Nokia in general has a very supportive culture and I have been able to maintain good work life balance.
Hi Amarjeet. Thank you for this question. My perception is, as one who has worked in professional environments for more than 20 years, that the work culture within Nokia is excellent. Nokia promotes a culture of inclusion, ethics, and integrity where the voice and contributions of every employee are considered important. In Nokia, employees are encouraged to speak up regardless of their job level. Nokia employees communicate freely and effectively within and across teams, groups, organizations, and regions. Nokia embraces the value of diversity for business success and supports the needs of all its employees - including a focus on gender and on its minority populations. Nokia focuses on the most important environmental and individual factors to help assure its employees’ workplace success: (1) well-defined processes/instructions, automation, and tools, (2) relevant and frequent supervisor feedback, and (3) a variety of incentives. Depending on employee’s performance needs and professional goals, (4 & 5) Nokia makes abundant informational and professional development training opportunities available to its employees, and (6) mandates frequent one-on-one meetings between employees and their managers.
Hi!
This is a recurring question, probably one of the most discussed ones. We are proud of our Values, open communication, supportive leadership and an atmosphere where people can learn a lot, also on the job. Teams are crucial, one of the reasons why so many like working for Nokia is the team spirit, the collaboration.
During this COVID pandemic the human interaction, respect, showing that you care, even the informal chats help us carry on with work and focus on tasks, while not losing touch with our closest colleagues, regardless of where they are in the world.
Come and experience it!
Hi, thanks for your question. The work environment is very open, flexible, and supportive at Nokia. We are like one global family with a common vision. We do not believe in hierarchies and micromanagement. We feel valued for our contribution and it helps us to be creative and solve problems. If we need help, others support us happily. All nationalities and cultures are equally respected. We have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Our Nokia essentials ensure the spirit of open, fearless, and empowered.
Wishing you the very best. Happy to answer in more detail if required.
Our Nokia Budapest site is in the lively city center with restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. There is also a cinema, where we typically hold our Budapest town hall meetings when Nokia executives visit us. We have various facilities such as a Baby-Parent room, gym, sauna, Team-Building room, and many open spaces where colleagues can network.
We have a strong speak-up culture. Employees can raise questions with the Country Management Team members every month during a Breakfast session; within the 'Country People Agenda', we organize diverse events: the Nokia Pride Team went to the Budapest Pride together, a 3-week long Summer Camp for the Nokia employees and their children to help the parents during the school free period and the Winter Festival, with a lot of health screening options and various winter activities, like a skating activity together with all the employees in Budapest.
Hi, if I would have to answer with only one word, I would say "positive". It doesn't mean everything is always perfect but instead, it means that in general, I feel good to be an employee at Nokia. Everything is in balance, I feel respected, I have many possibilities inside the company and the overall atmosphere is good.
Hello and thank you for your question.
Overall, I think the IT domain is a very interesting and evolving workplace. Hardware knowledge and experience is something useful for everyone working in this field. But in my opinion, in the coming years, the software part will experience more development, because it costs less than the hardware and can be updated more easily. However, that doesn't mean you can't work in a hardware field or that there aren't valuable job opportunities. Moreover, if you ever want to switch to software, you can easily do so.
Regarding the work culture at Nokia, I can tell you that mutual respect and understanding, as well as good cooperation and communication are the pillars of the environment that an employee notices when he comes to the company. The company aims to have an excellent work-life balance for its employees. To achieve this, there are high ethical standards. Ethnicity, gender, age, religious and educational background, and disabilities are not a means of categorizing people at Nokia. All people are given equal access to opportunities and discrimination has no place at Nokia.
In addition, Nokia invests in the personal development of employees through the training opportunities it provides. There is a learning hub where all employees have access and can request any training they want. Many online courses and trainings exist in it and can cover various fields of knowledge. This leads to continuous development of digital skills and technological know-how.
Hi, let me add some comments to this ever-important question!
I would describe Nokia as a workplace where things are done very seriously but with a relaxed mindset. This means that everybody is trusted to make the best they can deliver and achieve the goals that we set for ourselves. The work that each an every one of us does is very important and contributes to the end results and thus one should take their work and tasks seriously and put their focus into it.
However, I also think that the discussion at work can be very free on any topic, and I often find myself enjoying my time at the office, or sharing a funny story with my coworkers. I find it very easy to discuss the serious things in meetings when I know that there is also time for mental refreshment during the working day, and those situations quite often catch me by surprise. So I would summarise that at Nokia people can in one moment really delve into problem solving and at the next moment discuss their weekend plans with others.
Thank you for asking this question. I have experienced that the work culture at Nokia is very inclusive, positive, and uplifting. Learning, upskilling, and growth are highly encouraged. As Nokia employees, we can plan our learning goals and utilize various learning resources and hands-on projects to achieve those goals.
In addition to technical work, we can be part of meaningful employee resource groups (that are volunteer-run communities) like StrongHer, ShareToCare, and EQUAL. To me, these play a huge role in making Nokia truly open, fearless, and empowered.
Further, giving back to the community is part of Nokia's culture too. At Nokia Canada, we have initiatives like the recent Annual Network Automation Fundraising in December 2023, where we raised over $15,000 for a local charity in Ottawa. It adds another meaning to your day-to-day work.
Finally, collaboration and teamwork are the backbone of our work culture. It takes various forms including brainstorming sessions, team discussions, presentations, and more depending on the team we work for. Further, virtual collaboration takes the experience to the next level as you get to meet and work with people from across the globe.
