Anonymous asked a question to Vilmos M.
Thank you for your question! I want to be upfront and mention that I'm not an electrical engineer, and I actually had to look up what VLSI means — it's not my area of expertise. Therefore, I cannot give you specific technical advice about VLSI career paths.
However, I can share some general insights about technology careers that might be helpful:
The technological landscape is constantly evolving, which is both challenging and exciting. On one hand, it means we need to continuously learn and adapt to remain current — which can feel overwhelming at times. But on the flip side, this constant evolution brings endless opportunities to explore new and exciting technologies!
Nevertheless, some technologies that people assume are 'outdated' can actually provide unique career opportunities. A classic example is COBOL programming in banking systems — while it's considered an old technology, professionals who know it are highly valued because these systems are still critical for many organizations.
So, my general advice would be: if you find Frontend VLSI truly interesting, don't let timing concerns be the only factor in your decision.
@Sandrine H. Is there someone among the insiders from the EE / hardware side who is more aware of the trends for VLSI? I believe they would be better positioned to provide specific guidance about the current state and future prospects in this field.
I hope this general perspective helps in the meantime!
Thank you @Vilmos M.!
@anonymous: For Nokia, VLSI design is one of the key competencies needed to continue being a technological leader. Different business groups in Nokia have chip development teams. Positions are becoming available frequently for people who want to do VLSI design. Keep an eye on our open positions on our careers website: nokia.com/careers
Hope it helps.
