How are Nokia's BUs structured - is there a singular R&D for each product/division or a collaborative pool?

    Dear Siddhant,

Thank you very much for your question about Nokia's R&D structure! I'd like to mention upfront that my perspective comes from working in the Cloud and Network Services (CNS) business group, so I only have limited visibility into how R&D is organized in other parts of Nokia.

From what I've experienced in CNS, products typically have their own dedicated R&D teams. These can range from small teams to larger organizations with multiple scrum teams, depending on the product's scope and complexity. These teams are responsible for developing their specific products and delivering regular releases.

However, this doesn't mean the teams operate in complete isolation. There are several ways R&D collaboration happens across Nokia:

    • We have shared technology platforms and components. A great example is the Common Software Foundation, which is developed by a dedicated team but used across different products.
    • Nokia Bell Labs serves as a central research facility, providing innovation and support for many products across the company. Their research and innovations often benefit multiple product lines.
    • Being part of the same company, there's natural collaboration between teams. I've seen examples of people moving between different product teams, bringing their expertise and experience to new areas.

I hope this perspective from my position in CNS helps answer your question!
