Michael H. asked a question to Casey C.
Hello Michael H.
Hmmm... good question! Let me share this from my perspective since I work on the development side.
For challenges: in telecom, we're always dealing with complex stuff like integrating multiple components, keeping up with new 3GPP releases, and making sure everything works reliably. But honestly, I wouldn't throw the biggest challenges directly at our interns (don't want them to quit immediately! - joking aside!).
So how can interns add value?
First, they work on regular development tasks with the team, supervised by their senior or buddy (that's what we call them). Even doing these tasks helps move the project forward.
What I've noticed from good interns is that they bring fresh ideas. Sometimes they ask "why do we do it this way?" and honestly, it makes us stop and rethink our approach. They also bring new stuff they learned in school that we haven't tried yet.
I've seen interns contribute to actual code improvements, help with testing, and suggest better ways to implement things. All of this is really helpful and welcome.
My advice? Be curious, ask questions (don't be shy!), and own your tasks - even the small ones matter.
Best regads,
Casey
