To give you an idea of the scale, just the Hungarian site alone has over 2000 employees, with the majority working in various R&D (product development) teams. Some teams, particularly those working on products for previous generation networks, require a deep understanding of specific technologies and a willingness to dive deep into specialized topics. On the other hand, teams involved in green-field development need great flexibility and an eagerness to learn and apply new technologies on a daily basis.

While there's no absolute list of skills you must have for Nokia, I believe the following abilities are generally important for software engineers here:

• Problem-solving and analytical thinking
• Debugging and troubleshooting
• Test-driven development and automated testing (This is particularly crucial as Nokia is a telco company, and many of our products have very strict availability requirements. Just think of an emergency call feature – it can be a matter of life and death in certain situations.)
• Collaboration and teamwork skills, including proficiency with version control systems, software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum), and strong communication skills

In the teams I interact with more closely, these additional skills are also valuable:

• Cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

However, perhaps the most important skill of all is adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies. The tech landscape is constantly evolving, and we need engineers who can grow and adapt with it.
