Hi, the R&D field is very broad. So, it does depend on the exact area you are interested in. However, having good technical skills, coding skills are very important. Also, a problem-solving mindset is a must. Lastly, even though not always highlighted, communication skills are very important, since usually, you will be working with several colleagues for devising a solution to a problem.

I agree with Talita and I'd also add that it depends on the position. So I can recommend you Yashavanth to read the job offers which are interesting to you and learn the technologies which are mentioned there.
Lastly, as Talita said, soft skills are important as well!
