What types of projects or academic experiences do recruiters value most for university students starting their careers?

Evan O. asked a question to Linda K.

Hi everyone, Could you share insights on: What kinds of projects (academic, personal, or open-source) are most valuable? What skills or competencies should these projects showcase?

Hi, thank you for your amazing question!!
In reality, I am a data scientist doing Process Mining, so I am combining both Data Science with Process Science, but it all depends on your preferences. There is room for everyone's knowledge, in data science you can deal with raw data and do transformations, and you can focus on visualizations or data analytics and analysis. It all depends on your team. As a suggestion, I would say that Python is nowadays very used in whatever data science platform, and also all the Microsoft Azure training has become very relevant.
I hope I could help you!! Good luck in your academic path!

Hi Evan, Nokia value projects that demonstrate practical technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and innovation, particularly those involving real-world applications of AI, ML, IoT, and telecommunications. Personal or open-source projects that showcase coding proficiency, collaboration, and a passion for technology are also important. Key skills highlighted should include coding in relevant languages (e.g., Python, C++, Java), problem-solving, innovation, teamwork, and communication. Interdisciplinary projects and hands-on experiences, such as internships, are also highly regarded, as they prepare students to contribute effectively to Nokia's innovative projects.
