Vikas J. asked a question to Rana M.
I’m an experienced backend developer and interested in understanding the key technologies and skill sets Nokia teams currently focus on for software development. Could you share insights on the platforms or stacks commonly used?
Hello Vikas,
Nokia's software development heavily emphasizes cloud-native architectures, automation, and advanced networking solutions. Key programming languages frequently employed include Java, Python, Go, and C++, catering to diverse applications from core networking to AI/ML and cloud services. Development extensively utilizes public and private cloud platforms, alongside containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes. For data management, teams commonly work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases like Cassandra, and big data frameworks including Apache Kafka and Spark. A strong focus is also placed on DevOps methodologies, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and automation tools to ensure efficient and scalable software delivery.

Hello LA,
Thank you for sharing the detailed overview of Nokia’s technology stack — it was very insightful.
I have around 11 years of experience in web development, primarily working with PHP and related web technologies across large-scale applications. While exploring opportunities at Nokia, I noticed that most PHP-related roles appear to be focused on intern or early-career levels.
I wanted to understand if there are internal teams, legacy systems, platform integrations, or modernization initiatives where experienced PHP developers could contribute, especially in areas like APIs, backend services, or migration to cloud-native architectures.
Working with Nokia has been a long-standing aspiration of mine since childhood, and I would truly value any guidance or insight you could share.
Best regards,
Vikas
Hi Vikas,
This is kind of an internal info about PHP related jobs and opportunities, what I don't really have as I am working on a completely different area. In general I can state experienced PHP developers could certainly contribute within Nokia, particularly in internal enterprise IT systems, specific web applications, and integration layers that may utilize PHP. Your expertise in APIs and backend services is highly valuable for maintaining and evolving these platforms. Additionally, modernization initiatives often require a deep understanding of existing PHP-based systems to facilitate their migration to cloud-native architectures, providing critical roles in transition and integration projects.
Regards,
LA
Hi LA,
Thank you for the clarification — I really appreciate you taking the time to share this perspective.
The areas you mentioned align closely with my experience, especially enterprise web applications, API-driven backend systems, and supporting modernization of existing PHP platforms toward cloud-native and containerized environments. I’ve worked extensively on maintaining business-critical systems while gradually evolving them for scalability and integration.
If possible, could you please suggest how such internal opportunities are usually accessed — for example, whether there are specific job families, teams, or recruiters that focus on enterprise IT or platform modernization work? Even a general direction would be very helpful.
I remain genuinely interested in contributing to Nokia and would be grateful for any guidance you can share.
Best regards,
Vikas
